A Design to Remember

The Ash 1626 is the perfect example of a farmhouse that combines contemporary elements but still includes traditional characteristics, creating a unique house. The number in  the Ash 1626 simply derives from it being 1,626 square feet.
A home of two rooms and two-and-a-half bathroom consisting of a single center beam and two structures connected.

5 Things to Consider Before Building a Custom Home

Building a custom home is a big and exciting decision! But we know that the decision to build a custom home isn’t one that is made without a lot of thought and consideration. You want to go into this with all your ducks in a row and Fine Point Cedar Homes wants to help you along the entire journey, from start to finish!

We’ve come up with a list of things you should consider before you build your dream home.

 Hire the Right People

There are many home building companies out there, but they're not all cut from the same cloth. Do your research, get information sent to you or download it so you can read it at home. And don't forget to get recommendations and look at their work.
Doug and Barb of Fine Point Cedar Homes have been building homes in Western Canada for 23 years and have been awarded as one of Lindal's Top 10 Dealers Worldwide since 2006 – Top Lindal Dealer Worldwide 2016 and #1 in Canada 2017/2018/2019/2021!
Choosing to work with Barb and Doug with our Project Management Services is a decision that we know you won't regret! Check out why you should build with Fine Point Cedar Homes. We will help you design your home, walk your property site, and recommend quality and reliable builders!

 Green Thinking

Not only does building green help the environment, but it helps your wallet as well! Make sure that you maximize energy-efficiency in the design of your new home. Building and thinking green doesn't have to be expensive, it just mean using energy, water, and building materials efficiently! For example, building your home south-facing will not only maximize sunlight, but also utilize the sunlight to help heat your house.
Fine Point Cedar Homes has great 'Going Green' program that you should look into!

 Build with Resale in Mind
While we hope that this custom home is your forever home, things and plans can change and know that not everything is permanent. So consider building with resale in mind.  If 2020 has taught us anything, it's that we really cannot predict when circumstances can quickly change.
Don't choose features or options that price you out of the neighborhood or that are a little too eccentric. If there is a possibility that you have to sell, these are features that you may have to change in order to sell and can cost you down the road.

 Think About Your Lifestyle

This is so important and it is often times overlooked! The way you and your family live your life should be a very important consideration when building your custom home.
If you have kids, you want to be near schools. If you like to go on walks, you want your home to be near trails and parks, so your home shouldn't be in a very new neighborhood, where there may not be many sidewalks or trails.
Also, think about your hobbies and likes. If you are a big fan of cooking or baking, you'll want to consider that into your building plans.

 Know Your Numbers

This one may seem obvious, but there can be unforeseen events and costs as the building of your house becomes underway.
Run your numbers, see if you can afford to build now or if you need to wait to save up. Take advantage of the home building tools that are available and see how much what you want and need will cost. Ensure that the numbers include finds for the down payment, tax benefits, slush funds, and the costs of construction. See how much it costs to build a Lindal

Traditional Farmhouse Designs

It’s all about simplicity!

Country farmhouse plans are as varied as the regional farms they once presided over. Born on hundred-acre spreads over the prairies at the turn of the last century, family-friendly Farmhouse plans fit right in with suburban lifestyles too. The classic Farmhouse style house design plan conjures notions of a simpler time, plenty of room for a growing family and a strong connection to the land. Timeless features of classic Farmhouse design include clean lines, lap siding, steep roofs and generous porches to enjoy the outdoors.  Check out Lindal's Farmhouse Designs

Classic farmhouse home plans typically feature a wide footprint, 2 stories, dormers, wood-frame construction and decorative details that exude a warm homey feel, and lots of indoor/outdoor living opportunities. Built to be a gathering place for family and friends alike, farmhouse floor plans also tend to feature a spacious country kitchen with a cozy fireplace and plenty of room for a big rustic table.
